What we offer: Cultural canoe tours in a traditional, handcrafted, dugout cedar canoe with a native guide! This is the same traditional form of transport that has been used on the west coast of Vancouver Island for thousands of years, making it a special way to learn about local aboriginal history and rich culture that spans back thousands of years. The area we expore is the southern end of Clayoquot sound, which is Tla-o-qui-aht traditional territory. The west coast of Vancouver Island is comprised of many nations that are seperate but closely related as Nuuchahnulth. Nuuchahnulth means “people of the mountains and the sea” and is a cultural grouping with similar customs. Tla-o-qui-aht is one nation that is part of Nuuchahnulth.
